Lord Pomik Haromi, also known as Pomikide Haromi, is the current Court Chamberlain and Regent of the Amarr Empire, appointed by Empress Jamyl I in YC 110 after having served as House Steward of the Sarum Family for many years. Since Empress Jamyl I's death, Chamberlain Haromi has assumed the role of regent, making him arguably the most powerful individual in the Empire.

Early Life

Born the second son of the wealthy Holder Satam Haromi, Pomik enjoyed the highest degree of education the Empire could offer. As he quickly distinguished himself as a gifted student, especially in the fields of economics and mathematics, Pomik was soon groomed to take up position as steward of the Haromi estate under the lordship of his brother.

Despite a growing rivalry between the two Haromi brothers, Pomik was able to greatly expand the house's holdings and develop numerous lucrative trade enterprises for the benefit of the family. However, his brother's lack of diplomatic abilities led to a vicious conflict with its patron house - the Sarum Family. Although Pomik expended considerable effort to seek connections within the Sarum family to broker a beneficial peace, his brother's stubborn approach to the issue made it virtually impossible to soften the Sarumite blow. In the end, House Haromi was reduced to ruin and effectively stripped of all holdings.

It was during this dismantling of the house that the advisors of the Sarum Family - particularly its House Steward Rarai Sarum - began to notice the brilliance of Pomik Haromi. A significant amount of the family's assets turned out to be out of reach from what feudal authority the Sarum family held over the Haromis. The lucrative expansions into financial and mercantile efforts that had allowed the Haromi Family such a brilliant rise to power were all held in an extensive matrix of holding companies controlled solely by Pomik. Thus he alone retained the vast majority of his house's wealth, even as his brother and family were reduced to nothing.

The dismantling of his house had effectively made Pomik one of the wealthiest and most influential commoners under the Sarum banner.

Service to House Sarum

At age 28, eight months after he was stripped of nobility, Pomik was hired by Steward Rarai Sarum as Master of Coin - in charge of the taxation of all Sarum holdings. In the process, Pomik was restored to nobility and granted a significant estate on Mekhios.

As Master of Coin and member of the Steward's Council under Rarai Sarum, Haromi pushed for extensive reform of income structures within Sarum lands, largely based on Tash-Murkon models of promoting entrepreneurship among the commoners to increase the wealth of cities and planetary holders. These economic reforms granted House Sarum great wealth, and improved the loyalty of Sarum subjects in all levels of society.

House Steward

When Steward Rarai passed, Haromi was a given candidate for the post. Confirming the advice of her councillors, the young heir Jamyl granted Pomik Haromi the title of House Steward.

Compared to his history in House Haromi and as Master of Coin, Pomik's early years as House Steward were largely unremarkable. Instead of pushing for further economic reform, Haromi invested his time in teaching Jamyl the finer points of diplomacy and governance.

After Jamyl's death in YC105 and Doriam's ascendancy to the Imperial Throne, Haromi effectively assumed control of House Sarum and began to groom Merimeth Sarum for leadership. Though he was often considered to be distant from house court politics [1], Haromi made frequent appearances in sessions of the Privy Council as proxy for Merimeth, developing numerous valuable connections in the upper echelons of the Empire.

Though his consistent reluctance to officially name Merimeth the new heir for the Sarum Family attracted criticism from the other houses, Haromi would emphasize that the Sarum Family would handle its own business in its own time [2].

The House Steward spent much of this time alongside Merimeth, tutoring the future leader of his house just as he tutored Jamyl. Haromi made it no secret that his work was meant to prepare Merimeth for the Imperial Throne, and his actions since ascending to heir have given him acclaim as an excellent administrator.

During the Elder Invasion, Haromi commanded the planetary defenses of Mekhios and its capital - Xerah - while the infamous Battle of Mekhios took place in orbit.[3]

Court Chamberlain

After Dochuta Karsoth fled the imperial court, the Empire stood without both an Emperor and Chamberlain. With no-one able to enact throne law, the Emperor Family turned to Articio Kor-Azor, son of the late Emperor Doriam II. Invoking certain seldom-read rules, Articio was given temporary authority to select a Court Chamberlain. The lot fell on Ahan Hemirin, the Chief of Staff of the Kor-Azor Family.

Serving only for a matter of weeks, Chamberlain Hemirin enacted the formal measures and petitions required to place Jamyl Sarum on the Imperial Throne, and subsequently stepped down from his post to allow the Empress to appoint her own Chamberlain. Thus Pomik Haromi was uplifted from the Sarum Family along with the rest of the Empress' closest confidantes to join the Emperor Family in Amarr as its new Court Chamberlain.

As head of the court, it was Haromi's duty to lead the investigation of the imperial bureaucracy to root out the agents of Karsoth. Among the Emperor Family, there were rumors that Haromi's hunt went well beyond loyalists to the Karsoth regime, and that anyone subversive or critical of the Empress might find themselves bundled with the Sani Sabik and deviants.

Regency

When Empress Jamyl I passed in YC 117, the powers of regency immediately passed to the Chamberlain. It was Haromi's solemn duty to confirm the death of the empress[4], and to shoulder the responsibility of leading the imperial government and ensure a stable succession.[5]

In retribution for the killing of the empress, Lord Haromi issued a declaration of war against the Drifters.[6]
