Gate camping is the act of occupying the territory around a Stargate with the intent of catching other players once they jump through, typically caught with Warp Disruptors, Warp Disruption Field Generators, and Stasis Webifiers. Gate camps are most commonly found in low security and null security space.

Most gate camps are operated by pirates, with the intent of destroying other vessels and taking the resulting loot and or locking the ship down for a ransom.

Avoiding a Gate Camp

The best way to avoid being caught in a gatecamp is to use a fast ship equipped with an Afterburner, a Microwarpdrive, or both. The faster your ship can enter warp, the less likely it is that your ship will be locked down and warp scrambled. Ships equipped with a Covert Ops Cloaking Device are difficult to catch as well.

Equipping warp core stabilizers will neutralize the effect of a warp disruptor, but it will not counter an interdiction sphere.

While it is relatively easy to escape a camp that is not enforced by a bubble, there are two options available to the pilot:

  1. Wait for the session change timer to expire and burn back to the gate
  2. Cloak and attempt to maneuver back to the gate or out of the bubble
  3. Destroy the warp disruption field
    1. Fight your way through the hostile forces

If at all possible, it is advisable to have a scout in a fast ship ahead of a slower, more vulnerable ship in order to avoid being caught in a trap. There is safety in numbers, but traveling with a large group also tends to slow down an advancing group.
