Rigs are modules that can be fitted to your ship to allow it to be modified so that it is better at some things, but most Rigs also have drawbacks.

Unlike normal modules, which are created from materials refined from asteroid ores, Rigs are created by repurposing salvage gathered by a salvager [[1]].

Rigs are permanent upgrades. Once they have been applied to a ship, they cannot be removed without destroying them, and repackaging the ship destroys the Rigs on it.
