Summary
While all players appreciate regular expansions of their favorite game, it is a major concern amongst players that expansion content enters the game in an unfinished state, and that development focus shifts to the next expansion, thus leaving uncompleted content in the game. This damages CCPs reputation, as expansions are considered overhyped, and CCP not delivering on what it promises. Players have accepted delay in fixes of old content (Factional Warfare, Science & Industry overhaul) in favor of the Apocrypha expansion, but are only treated to even more unfinished content.
While we agree that Eve should continue moving forward, CCP should consider not having such an aggressive schedule, and look for a healthier balance in regards to fixing and finalizing old content and introducing new.
Often-named unfinished features in the game include:
- COSMOS missions
- Everything Factional Warfare related, including missions
- Black-Ops
- Corporation shares
Existing content that is in urgent need of an overhaul includes:
- User interface (general)
- Science & Industry interface (specific)
- Mining mechanics
- 0.0 sovereinty
- Player-owned Stations
- Bounty hunting mechanics
With Apocrypha, the following incomplete content has been introduced:
- Epic mission arcs
- New effects graphics (seem placeholder-ish)
- T3 ships (missing subsystems, not properly balanced)
The following Apocrypha-related features need work:
- Scanning mechanics
As you may notice, most of the key features of the Apocrypha expansion entered the game in an unfinished state, and people are very concerned that Epic Mission Arcs will become another COSMOS, overhyped and neglected post-release. Perhaps CCP should consider using the system ArenaNet uses, that an expansion simply won't be shipped until every employee sais it's finished, as they claim, unfinished expansions just cause it to be reviewed badly by the players, leading to demotivation amongst the staff and discontent amongst the players.
What CCP should do:
- Finalize Apocrypha content properly in upcoming updates
- Allocate developement time to finish old content
- Have a less aggressive development schedule for upcoming expansions and do not publish until the product is finished (and polished)
- As much as we love wormholes, do not introduce brand new content but instead consider overhauling parts of the game that are in urgent need of review
