Summary

The space is full of offline POSses. The reasons for this is twofold:

  • the owner has forgotten to feed them
  • the owner is simply lazy to remove them
  • they are being used for placeholders at moons

While temporarily offline POSses (point 1) are completely okay, the other two reasons are not. Taking out an offline POS takes a long time, requires a lot of firepower, and yields no profit except when other structures are also anchored next to it which can be scooped.

This proposal is about allowing the unanchoring of abandoned offline POSses by pilots other than the owner.

Solution

If a POS is abandoned and offline for a long enough time, anyone going there should be able to unanchor and scoop it. The time of being abandoned is up for discussion, I was thinking somewhere 2 and 4 weeks. The skills and method required for unanchoring it is also up for discussion. Several ideas came up regarding this:

  • Unanchoring someone else's POS should take longer than normal unanchoring
  • Unanchoring someone else's POS could be a chance-based operation, possibly involving some kind of "hacking" skill
  • POS owner should be notified about the unanchoring attempt and the pilot attempting to unanchor the POS should be flagged for aggression against the POS owner

Alternatively, after a successful hacking attempt the POS owner should be notified about the successful hacking and have 24 hours to react before the POS is actually scoopable by the hacker.

Pros

  • Less leftover crap in space
  • Less shooting of stationary structures for endless amounts of time
  • New option to steal stuff
  • No more placeholder POSses affect sov warfare

Cons

  • No more placeholder POSses affect sov warfare
  • New option to steal stuff :)
