Wormholes

I don't know whether I am in the correct area, due to the fact I'm new to this site, but can anyone tell me whether wormholes will only collapse at downtimes or when the mass limits is reached, or if the wormholes will close at set times (other than downtimes) if the mass limit is not reached.
