Talk:Avoiding pirates

Most of the suggestions here are pretty good, but also deceiving. Eve is a complicated place, and the suggestions given to survive might also not mean a lot. Essentially you need to learn to make your own judgment from all the factors that are most important and go with that. And of course people should know is that rule number is don't undock with a ship you cannot afford to lose.

I think the things that are really important to stay away from player pirates is whether or not you stay in empire space, if you are in a war [not applicable for people in NPC corps ofcourse], what security level the systems have you travel trough. And the last part is keeping a close eye on your overview as it tells you more than all the things combined.

I think the map tools are cool but they don't actually tell you much (apart from security status of systems). Especially in empire where there are thousands of players pvp'ing arround, destroying ships and also podding...

Due to the nature of empire, the autopilot settings also do not help you much. The best thing you can do with it is make sure it will never send you into low security. Evading systems with pod killings and adjusting the bar for minimum security status of systems does not help much and can make your route impossible or dreadfully long.

Aside from the whole empire thing, by the time players get as far as checking this guide, they might also be interested in leaving empire. A good description of how to survive in low sec and how 0.0 works would be appropriate I think. Thats all. --sg3s 13:12, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
