Talk:3rd party Applications
I've removed a part of the EVE Tracker entry as it made an unnecessary jab at the Capsuleer application. Please see the history to compare the old and newer version. This article should simply list and describe applications as developed by various users; it should not be used to make one app look better than the competition by smacking the others. --Ryushe 19:52, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Page Removal - Categories now serve this purpose
This page should really be removed, as applications should have their own pages under the Category:Third Party Tools category. The page was created while this category and Category:Third Party Development did not exist, and no longer serve any purpose. Category pages can be used as indexes, rather than a manually updated index page.--Ix Forres 16:22, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- I don't necessarily agree with that as not all of these apps might need or want their specific own page page on the Wiki. I for one am perfectly happy just having my 'app' listed here along with the others so people can see an easy overview. Seeing as there's tools in different categories listed on the page we have now, do you propose to split up the new Third Party Tools category into several sections such as Webbased, Desktop Apps, etc? If so, you're only going to make it harder (I think) for people to find info about them. --Ryushe 17:15, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- A fair point, but this content could quite simply be placed in the category page itself rather than filling up another page that is not associated with the category, making things harder to find. I would also suggest that perhaps rather than adding every application under the sun to the list, let developers choose if they wish to add a link or if they wish to use the Evelopedia to host a page, as this latter option should be encouraged in order to keep things as centralised as possible. --Ix Forres 17:47, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- Please explain "placed in the category page". Would that be as a separate page at that point or part of a listing on the actual category page? If so, I agree, but then transplant the content from this page to that category page for now and let it sort itself out. --Ryushe 17:58, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- As part of a listing on the category page. I would suggest that pages not be added by indexers to applications but that developers be encouraged to add this data themselves, as they may well wish to add a page rather than add a link.--Ix Forres 21:16, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- Ok it should be a Category, yes developers should be encouraged to add links themselves, If not a page of it's own. But if someone is going to reorganise they should make sure they reorganise the content rather than just delete. -- Eldstrom 13:25, 19th December 2008 (GMT)
