"Chest Wound" is a type of corn alcohol. The name is usually associated with the burning sensation one feels in their chest after drinking it, but actually derives from the fact that the worst thing you can do to someone with a wounded chest is give them something to drink.

Historical Background

Chest Wound is of Minmatar origin, but its birthplace was on the corn plantations of the Amarr Empire. Bits of purloined corn would be used to make mash by Minmatar slaves, which they would then use to make alcohol. These early forms were extremely harsh, and often contained dangerous levels of various toxins. Regardless, since it was relatively easy to make and could rise to strengths of 80-90 proof without aging, the use of this clear alcohol spread quickly amongst the slaves.[1]

After the Rebellion, the Minmatar began refining the distilling process, and today's Chest Wound is a much purer product. It is still quite harsh, however, and most brands purposefully still contain high, though not toxic, levels of methane. Some varieties are now aged, which colors and smooths the alcohol, but it is the clear, un-aged version that is most common.

Recipes

Though not a popular alcohol, most bars do have a bottle on hand for the occasional orders of those few mixed drinks that require it.

Fatal Chest Wound

This drink consists of two parts Chest Wound, and one part Smurgleblaster. Usually served with a lemon wedge.

Gallente Chest Wound

The most popular Chest Wound drink is the Gallente Chest Wound. It's composed of one part Chest Wound with two parts Zydrine wine, and a splash of cherise. It is still quite potent, but much less harsh than one might expect.

Gushing Chest Wound

This drink consists of one part Chest Wound, and one part Quafe. It is served in a double shot glass which is covered, slammed on the bar, and drank at once while it foams.

Minmatar Chest Wound

Two shots of Chest Wound, one shot of Rock Whiskey,[2] and a dash of Danar Hotsauce make this one of the roughest drinks in the cluster.[3]
