Summary
We’d like to have the CSM constitution re-written to the effect that the majority vote winner is not automatically appointed Chairman but instead (stand-in chair) with the sole responsibility to handle an initial vote amongst committee members to select its own formal chair from the nine representatives. The CSM documents will need to be revised and changes authorized by CCP if this issue is to pass, since at the moment it is not possible within the rules of the CSM for the Chair to resign position and stand again for the position in the same session. The reason we’re suggesting this change is that it’s very possible that the winner of the popular vote will not be best suited for the role of chair in future sessions of the CSM and the council will need the choice to pass over the majority vote winner for a more appropriate candidate if they are so-minded.
