Federation Marines 62 - Bravo Company
Federation Marines 62 - Bravo Company was a military unit stationed in the city of Tovil on Caldari Prime[1]. They achieved fame within the Federation for their defense of the Valley Norge shopping district during the invasion of Caldari Prime by Tibus Heth in YC 110, the stories of which have been recounted for in several pieces of media ranging from autobiographies to documentaries. As Federation Marines 62 effectively collapsed after the victory of State military forces, Bravo Company no longer exists in its full form.
Background
Bravo Company was stationed at its respective armory in the outer suburb of Sarkov in Tovil, commonly called “Kaka Barracks” over its Federal designation of 62B. The armory was first constructed to station units enforcing martial law after the conquest of Caldari Prime in the opening days of the Gallente-Caldari War. It was later used as a logistics depot for the reconstruction of the city once order had been reestablished. At the end of the war, Kaka Barracks was downsized considerably to become a barracks and armory for Federation reserve forces and youth corps. As reflected in its last Federal designation, 62 Bravo Company were the most recent occupants, a mechanized infantry unit in the reserves.
YC 110 Invasion of Caldari Prime
When Tibus Heth led the Caldari military in an invasion of Luminaire to reclaim Caldari Prime In YC 110, B Company mobilized and headed over two kilometers into the center of Tovil, towards the district of Valley Norge. Their goal was to garrison the area against the massive landing force the Caldari Navy was sending down to the planet. However, communications jamming cut the company off from the Gallente military command on Caldari Prime. Combined with EMP strikes that rendered any non-hardened weapons and vehicles ineffective, the unit was thrown into dire straits fairly rapidly.
Linking up with local police forces, soldiers of B Company acquired mechanical-based projectile weaponry of Minmatar manufacture, and conducted a last stand within a Valley Norge mall. The unit inflicted many casualties against the invading Caldari, but were ultimately decimated. Only a handful survived, with most fleeing the city to escape the new occupants.
Fate
The fate of those who were successful in escaping Tovil met a myriad of different ends. Those who are accounted for were either rescued by Gallente special forces or escaped Caldari Prime via their own means and later disclosed themselves to the Federation. However, there were others who remained on Caldari Prime to join the resistance or attempt to blend back into normal life. There were even some who, while managing to escape the occupied world, decided to remain off-grid from the Federation’s purview. All of these unaccounted-for individuals were classified as missing-in-action.
The recovered soldiers of 62 B Company were awarded the Silver Shield for Gallantry by President Foiritan, while company CO Captain Marque Tavonen, who sacrificed himself for the remainder of his unit to flee Valley Norge, was posthumously titled a Hero of the Gallente Federation. Despite the majority of survivors suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, there was a media frenzy, with the public glorifying these individuals for narrowly escaping wartorn Caldari Prime. While there were many accounts of their exploits not long after their rescue, only a few of these soldiers actually agreed to recounting their story. With most of them now recovering, there is a number of books and documentaries made with the survivors’ collaboration and support, either scheduled for release or in circulation already.
Some academics have noted that the glory surrounding Bravo Company is disproportionate or unwarranted, given the many other soldiers who lost their lives or barely survived the invasion of the Caldari homeworld, but most are too sensitive to make this notion a popular opinion.
