Summary

Currently, the value of Magnetometric exploration sites pales in comparison to Radar, Ladar, Unknown and Gravimetric sites. Both Magnetometric (Archaeology/Salvaging) and Radar (Hacking) are considered 'profession' sites. But where a low sec Radar site can easily net you 10 to 20 million ISK for very little effort, a low sec Magnetometric site usually contains only plain T1 salvage items worth maybe 1/10th of what you can get from a Radar site.

An additional problem is that although 0.0 Magnetometric sites can yield T2, they only yield Large T2 Rig BPCs.

Because of this Magnetometric sites are getting largely ignored by explorers, and are essentially wasted content. This proposal requests that magnetometric sites are revamped to bring them in line with the profitability of Radar sites (as their risk is already equal).

Note: It is possible this problem is mainly prevalent in high sec and low sec, and less so in 0.0. As such, the Magnetometric sites need to be evaluated for all security levels, and may only require boosting in certain regions or security levels.

Potential Solutions

  • One solution is to simply increase and improve the loot found in Magnetometric sites:
    • More T2 salvage
    • More T2 BPCs, for rigs (all sizes), modules and maybe even ships.
    • Implants
  • Another solution is to repurpose Magnetometric sites, possibly in combination with new (producable) items.

Regardless of the exact route chosen, the goal should be to bring Magnetometric sites to the same level of profitability as Radar sites that spawn in the same system.

Pros

  • Magnetometric sites are worthwhile

Cons

  • The first solution may have as disadvantage that the increase in T2 salvage and BPCs on the market will lower their price/value and eventually not make Magnetometric sites more valuable. That however is only a risk of the first solution, and not of this proposal in general.
