From 2005 until 2009, Band of Brothers (BoB) was one of the major 0.0 powers in EVE Online. BoB's behavior was aggressive and openly expansionistic. The alliance has attacked many of 0.0 space's major alliances.
The Band of Brothers alliance was comprised of six major corporations; Black Eclipse Corp (BNCE), Black Nova Corp (BNC), Destructive Influence (DICE), Evolution (EVOL), Finfleet (FINFL) and Reikoku (RKK), as well as several smaller support and holding corporations. The alliance held three regions: Delve, Period Basis and Querious.
BoB had a large number of allies who fought alongside the alliance in its wars and were resident within BoB's space. This coalition was known as the Greater BoB Community (GBC).
In February 2009, all BoB corporations joined the KenZoku alliance following the closure of the BoB alliance by a director.
General History
The Band of Brothers alliance was first formed in 2004 by 5 corporations; Arcane Technologies UK (ATUK), Evolution, Reikoku, Rough Necks (RN) and m0o corp (m0o) [1]. These corporations were later joined by Black Nova Corp, Destructive Influence and Finfleet.
Initially, the alliance was named C.C.C.P. (for Cookies, Cake, Cream and Pie). The alliance name was changed to Band of Brothers after resistance from CCP, the creators of EVE Online.
BoB formed in the aftermath of the Great Northern War, in which the founding corporations defeated Phoenix Alliance, then a major power. The alliance moved to Delve, where it settled and remained ever since. Using Delve as a base, BoB and its allies have attacked many major alliances, expanding its territory significantly.
In early 2007, BoB announced its intention to conquer all of 0.0 space. This triggered the Great War, in which the majority of the 0.0 population not allied to BoB formed a large coalition, with the intention of removing BoB from 0.0. The coalition forced BoB back into Delve - removing 9 regions of space from their possesion in the process - where BoB fought a successful defensive action halting The Coalition. Having had its progress checked, The Coalition broke apart, leaving BoB to retake Period Basis and Querious.
In February 2009 a director in bob's executor corp disbanded the alliance. GoonSwarm was quick to launch a attack on Delve with support from allies. After approximately two months of fighting GoonSwarm controlled all regions previously held by band of brothers (who had reformed as 'Kenzoku'). Attempts to remove Goonswarm from Querious continued until the middle of June, and although some individual systems were temporarily occupied by alliances including Against all authorities, Stain empire, Scorched Earth, Coven, Atlas, Kenzoku, and Executive outcomes, no substantial areas of space have been taken back.
BoB War History
Great Northern War
Early History
In the aftermath of the Great Northern War, BoB roamed the North, turning it into a wasteland.
Taking Delve
Having removed any significant alliances from the North, the BoB leadership decided to move into Delve. BoB allied Firmus Ixion (FIX), who held the neighbouring region of Querious. Fountain, the region to the immediate north, was held by Fountain Alliance (FA), then the most powerful alliance in 0.0, and staunch ally of Phoenix Alliance in the Great Northern War. BoB, alongside Shinra (SNRA), destroyed Fountain Alliance and took Fountain.
Operation Clockwise
Operation Clockwise was the next secret plot devised by the BoB leadership. The leadership planned to work around the universe map in a clockwise direction from Delve, fighting anything in the way. This included the removal of Imperium from Outer Ring, and the push continued all the way back up to BKG. BoB stopped there and returned home to build their first outpost in Delve and push forwards into the capital age.
Serpentis Corporation
Next, the Serpentis Corporation attempted to reclaim Fountain, its traditional home region. Grand Admiral Junset threatened to annihilate BoB if it did not move. However, BoB refused to accept Serpentis Corporation's claims, so Serpentis Alliance - alongside several of BoB's old enemies - attacked BoB. BoB fought off the attacks, driving Serpentis Corporation and its allies from Fountain and Delve.
Serpentis Corporation, along with G Alliance and NORAD fleets, attacked and reinforced an industrial Starbase (or POS, Player Owned Structure) belonging to Evolution in the A2V6-6 system in Outer Ring. In the ensuing battle, BoB defeated its enemies, destroying the Nyx class mothership of Admiral Grendal and two Moros class dreadnoughts. With their campaign in ruins, The Serpentis Corporation executed Admiral Grendal for gross incompetence. [2][3]
Operation Lockdown
Operation Lock-Down was initiated when BoB intelligence learned of a mothership class vessel being constructed by G Alliance under the guise of an alternate corporation in EC-P8R. BoB contracted Ascendant Frontier (ASCN) and Axion Empire to assist in sieging the system. Together, they locked down the system for a week, systematically reinforcing and destroying every POS in the system.
The siege of EC-P8R was a landmark in 0.0 politics. It signaled to all alliances that they were not safe alone, and marked the beginning of the formation of the large 0.0 power blocs.
Operation Goonicide
Operation Goonicide saw BoB drive Goonswarm from their home region. At the time, Goonswarm were a new alliance in New Eden, priding themselves on their obnoxious behaviour and use of numbers to counter their lack of experience and poor equipment. They had settled into an NPC region just north of Delve, after several successful wars in the east. BoB;s leaders used an incident as an opportunity to start a propaganda war against Goonswarm, leading to Operation Goonicide - in which BoB resolved to remove Goonswarm from New Eden, even going so far as to claim "There are no goons".
When BoB attacked, Goonswarm were beaten back by their more skilled players in expensive Tech 2 (T2) ships. This was effective due to the relative youth of most of the players in Goonswarm, as at the time T2 snipers could not be countered easily with T1 ships. Goonswarm fell back to S-U where BoB camped them down until they moved back east, to wait out the BoB attack in their NPC stations.
The Pendulum Wars
The Pendulum Wars were a series of wars marked by the use of the pendulum theme in the announcements of SirMolle. The wars culminated in the Great War, in which the majority of 0.0 unsuccessfully tried to remove BoB from 0.0 space.
ASCN
In Operation Pendulum, also known as The ASCN War, BoB turned on Ascendant Frontier. Located in the South, Ascendant Frontier was then the largest alliance in EVE, and a major industrial powerhouse. Notably, Ascendant Frontier had constructed the first titan in 0.0 space.
Ascendant Frontier rapidly collapsed. In the war, BoB destroyed Ascendant Frontier's titan - an Avatar class vessel - piloted by CYVOK, the leader of Ascendant Frontier. Within a few weeks, the war was over.
RSF and the South
BoB, along with its allies, continued to fight in the South against Red Swarm Federation (RSF), a coalition of alliances in the south an east, including Red Alliance, GoonSwarm, KIA Alliance, and Tau Ceti Federation.
Initially, BoB forces pushed deep into Red Swarm Federation territory. At its furthest reach, BoB obtained sovereignty in 9-980U and removed sovereignty in XGH-SH in Tenerifis. With its supply lines stretched, the BoB advance stalled. Shrike of Evolution lost her Avatar class titan in 46DP-O when it was decloaked on a gate. Red Swarm Federation attacked BoB behind its lines. Unable to cope with being fought in multiple locations, the BoB forces were forced back.
Eventually SirMolle ordered an evacuation of the South to consolidate in Delve, Querious and Period Basis. A large number of towers were left behind in the withdrawal.
The Great War
The Great War was the largest war in the history of EVE, with almost all alliances in 0.0 space taking part in hostilities. Almost all 0.0 entities outside the Greater BoB Community joined together in a coalition to drive BoB from 0.0 space. The coalition was initially composed of two main groups: the North and the South.
Not wanting to be on the losing side, Mercenary Coalition, a long-time ally of BoB, defected and formed Tortuga, a coalition with KIA and others. At the time, Mercenary Coalition had sovereignty in Period Basis under BoB protection, giving Tortuga a foothold next door to Delve.
Initially, the Greater BoB Community tried to fight the coalition on all fronts, but this proved too difficult. The BoB forces pulled back to Delve, basing out of the Blood Raiders station in PR-8CA and fought for every system in Delve.
The coalition's attacks were halted in Delve, with the members suffering heavy losses. In NOL-M9, Oort from Red Alliance lost his titan class ship when he attempted to doomsday Greater BoB Community ships attacking a carrier at a gate. This weakened the resolve of Red Alliance, who soon returned to their home regions, where they threatened the space of the Northern Coalition.
With its resolve weakened by its heavy losses, and the departure of Red Alliance, the coalition faltered. The last alliance to leave was Goonswarm, who continued to fight for several months, but were eventually evicted from Delve and Querious. Next, BoB turned on Tortuga in Period Basis.
Tortuga almost immediately suffered a complete collapse of morale. Many pilots ran from the onslaught, with many others being camped into their stations. Some Tortuga pilots committed insurance fraud on a massive scale by undocking their ships, only to be destroyed by waiting Greater BoB Community ships.
Maximum Damage
After being thwarted in its attempts to conquer all of 0.0, BoB's strategy changed to the policy of maximum damage (MAX). This new philosophy was a departure from that of capturing and holding space. It would see BoB attack a region, inflicting the maximum possible damage before retreating.
The North
MAX started off on 2008.07.10, with 350 capital ships and 600 fleet ships from BoB and its Greater BoB Community moving to the North.
BoB first targeted the Imperial Republic of the North and Red Alliance in Deklein and Pure Blind. The Northern Coalition defenders soon collapsed.
BoB then moved to Obe in The Forge, from where it attacked Morsus Mihi. The initial attacks were met with high losses, eventually a small foothold was gained in a single pipe system that lacked any stations or notable assets. Rallying around this victory BoB attempted to siege D7-ZAC in a surprise attack, ending in disaster. Further attempts were made to coordinate with Triumvirate that culminated in a failed attempted on IMK. After a short break in activity BoB launched a surprise attack on 15W-GC but failed to hold the system after initially reinforcing many of its Starbases. From this point onwards all major combat revolved around the E-O and M-O entry systems with no direct threat on Morsus Mihi Assets. Several massive battles occurred, with heavy losses for BoB. The most notable battles were in E-OGL4 (where 118 capital ships and 780 sub-caps were destroyed) and the destruction of of BoB Titan in Obe (ISD), the second of two Titans lost in the conflict. After several debilitating Capital Ship fleet losses, BoB Command grounded all capital ships and shortly thereafter called the campaign to a close in defeat.
The South
BoB then moved to the South without the Greater BoB Community, where it began attacking Goonswarm in Detorid, with Against ALL Authorities attacking on another front. Initial progress was slowed by good tower timing by Goonswarm. Then, progress was checked completely when Goonswarm hot dropped BoB dreadnaughts in a trap (Battle Info). BoB was unable to regain momentum when Goonswarm's allies came to its aid by harassing BoB forces.
Day of Dissolution
In the early hours of February 5th, 2009, the Band of Brothers alliance was disbanded by Haargoth Agamar, a director of the Black Nova Corp. Haargoth had director rights in both Black Nova Corp and the BoB holding and executor corp, Tin Foil. As a director of Tin Foil, Haargoth Agamar had the right to remove all corporations from BoB and then close the alliance. Goonswarm has claimed responsibility for the event, as the member defected to this alliance after the incident. Most of the corporations from the former BoB alliance have joined the Kenzoku alliance. This began the Second Great War, during which Kenzoku was unable to retain control of any substantial areas of space.
Alliance Tournaments
BoB has won several of the Alliance Tournaments over the past few years, but after losing to The Star Fraction have not entered later events, blaming the rapidly filled roster of the following one, and in-game commitments for the last.
