Are we going to try and separate the articles for Race & Faction fx Caldari (Race) and Caldari State (Faction)? At the moment the Race and Faction pages are the same. --Dex Nederland 13:44, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Bare in mind that this is just a proposal. But yes, they would need seperating and probably locking down atm. Check the "Pages" section at the top :) --CCP Ginger 13:50, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

I have an 'issue' with the locking down component at the moment. It makes it hard for contributions to be made by the player community to flesh out entries to provide more interlinking entries. If you could poke the evelopedia devs on possibly being able to lock certain content (similar to the static info in the item database) and then have the lower parts editable with a suitable warning, caution, hint, or please note line. --Dex Nederland 17:51, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately we cant do that at the moment and I agree we need a better solution to locking but I disagree that having "official" fiction and "unofficial" fiction on the same page will be condusive to good understanding of the backstory. Players have very differing views about certain pockets of fiction and it would be better on a seperate page linked up.

Updating the locked page with current and clean info is really waht we need a solution too.

Well as an example, the chronicle The Better Part of Valor features Tibus Heth, but the chronicle doesn't have a "Related Articles" section that it can link to the Tibus Heth article. It does manage to link to Caldari, drones, and heat.

Examining some of the proposals listed, I would suggest not labelling anything "NPC." If you want to encourage immersion, RP and the perception of successfully interacting with the game's content as a skill, then as much as possible people need to make no distinction between PCs and NPCs - they are all just facets of the universe to interact with. --Evanda Char 21:07, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

That would work well if the EVElopedia was geared towards immersion, but its an information database, or a guide if you will. Confusing the players between what is NPC and what is PC is counter productive. This draws a nice line underneath it.

I disagree with dropping the Faction categories for 1 category of NPC Organizations. All NPC organizations (outside of the factions) are NPC corporations, the categories are basically duplicates.

--Dex Nederland 14:21, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

I think each bloodline page should include a link to the 'capsuleer groups' that include the subset of speciality backgrounds players choose at the time of character creation.

As for the categories, they all make sense now except the NPC corporation/organization one. For me the problem is in the naming convention (e.g. factions, empires, organizations, corporations, governments, etc.), that makes it confusing. The ones shown on this page (http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Category:NPC_Factions) make sense except for 'Factions', which should be 'Sub-factions' or something distinct to distinguish it from the Empires. e.g. Ammatar Mandate is a Sub-faction of the Amarr Faction.

The other thing that needs to be decided is the meaning of the term 'faction'. Faction could mean 'nation', as in the Amarr Faction (Nation), which has its own government, society, etc., but then 'faction' could mean a group distinguised by ideology, not territory, such as Mordus Legion, or SOE (or would those just be 'organizations'?).

--Blake Rathen 20:33, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

All the minor factions are still "Factions"; ie you gain faction standing with them. But as the storyline changes these organizations' relationships change, a reason to have a wiki is to allow for that.
--Dex Nederland 04:20, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

If nothing else, we can call the general category "NPC Factions" and then call the current "Factions" "Sub-Factions" (for want of a better name currently). This divides everything a bit nicer, thoughts?

--CCP Ginger 10:34, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

What about using "NPC Blocks" for the larger groups like the Caldari related factions (Caldari State, Mordu's Legion, and Guristas) and "NPC Factions" for each of the separate groups, like the Ammatar Mandate, Khanid Kingdom, Amarr Empire, Sansha Nation, and Blood Raiders?
Another option may be to adopt the player structure of "Coalition" -> "Alliance" but then various pirate groups may be left out of any Coalition (Caldari State & Mordu's Legion, but not Guristas). Granted this could be "Block" -> "Faction" as well.
--Dex Nederland 14:22, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

It might be good to have options on how to sort them but id rather keep it simple and clear rather than confuse things too much. At the end of the day it matters little what they are called, it just allows them to be split up into sensible groupings.

--CCP Ginger 14:59, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

I am pretty sure the "NPC Blocks" are what used to be under the Organizations link on the Eve-O page.
--Dex Nederland 15:32, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Yep, but it used to be an optional sort option. So you could view them by group, or affiliation etc. web archive has it.
