Covert Ops Ships (and their bigger sisters Black Ops) are unique in their ability to fit the Covert Ops Cloaking Device II which allows them to remain cloaked while warping in addition to retaining their maximum velocity while cloaked. CovOps are generally employed as forward scouts in fleet movements in order to monitor enemy movements while cloaked.

There are two types of CovOps ships. One provides a bonus to astrometric skills enabling them to serve as scan probe ships very effectively in order to search out hidden enemy ships. Their counter part is the Stealth Bomber which allows a small frigate sized ship to fit a cloak, and cruise missiles which are generally fitted to battleships.
