Habitat |
Eynlif are small, hardy perennials that inhabit the dry, rocky terrain of western Coricia where there is little competition among plantlife. They may take root in in sandy or stony soil but tend to survive longer and grow larger when they take root in porous or sedimentary stone, where more moisture is likely to condense. These habitats generally fall along the transitional biomes between the Sobaki Sands and more hospitable lands such as the Eyniletti Plains, but specimens have been found in high rock formations in the deep wastes of the Greater Sobaki Desert. |
Ecology |
Eynlif are a succulent eudicot that generally flower once annually and rely on abiotic reproduction. The bloom is pale yellow, 3-9cm in diameter, with a single prominent stamen and six thinner carpels surrounding. The bloom generally lasts 6-14 days, with the flower relying on the varied tradewinds that cross Coricia for anemophily. The plant is typically found in isolation, though colonies are occasionally observed. |
Characteristics |
Eynlif flesh is pale grey-green in color, with juveniel plants exhibiting fine trichomes which diminish after 2-3 summers. The succulent leaves are roughly trapezoidal and are arranged in a spiral phyllotaxis which may have evolved as an efficient means of funneling moisture downward toward the root stalk. In addition to mineral salts, the leaves themselves contain phenethylamide alkaloids which bear psychotropic properties that have been utilized by Starkmanir (and later Vherokior) shamans for many generations. |
