Darmad Intajaf
Darmad Intajaf (born YC76) is a former eleventh-generation slave who was owned by Lucretio Kor-Azor. He was highly educated and worked in a coastal research facility in Dam-Torsad, where he helped develop a revolutionary polymer synthesis technique. Upon Empress Jamyl I's emancipation decree, Darmad was freed from slavery.
Life
As a slave, elements of Darmad's early life are fractured. It is known he was born in YC76 to Engru Intajaf, a tenth-generation slave who worked as a religious researcher in Dam-Torsad. The identity of Darmad's mother is not recorded, indicating she may have been of a higher generation than Engru. Engru was allowed to raise his son personally. Given Enrgu's academic background, Darmad was afforded a good education.
Darmad displayed high intelligence and a talent for chemistry. His Holder did not see the value of an educated slave, however, and sent Darmad to work in his fields. Darmad did not suffer heavy labor for long, however, as Lucretio Kor-Azor heard tales of the highly-intelligent young man and purchased him cheaply. Lucretio then had Darmad sent to the Hedion University: Slave Education Annex.
Darmad studied chemistry at the University and excelled. Once he had graduated, Lucretio sent him to work in a research facility. During his first several years, Darmad was unable to translate his academic success to practical use. This led to frustration from Lucretio, who frequently punished Darmad in an effort to encourage him to improve.
His breakthrough came early in YC110, when he discovered a new method of polymer synthesis. This method utilized a combination of microgravity and superheating to create exceptional high-altitude building materials. With this success, Lucretio Kor-Azor lowered the pressure on Darmad somewhat, even allowing him to visit his father in Dam-Torsad.
Emancipation
In December YC110, during his visit with his father in Dam-Torsad, Darmad was freed from slavery along with every other slave of ninth or higher generation, and slaves involved in academic or religious fields. Darmad was caught by surprise by the announcement, which was delivered to him as he talked with his father and another slave named Crofton.
While Crofton took a highly cynical view of his freedom, Darmad was notably more optimistic. He and his father departed Dam-Torsad together.
He has since relocated to the Minmatar Republic, where he took a position with Six Kin Development.
