Parlan
Parlan is an Amarr priest. He lives at a temple on a temperate planet, where he spends most of his evenings reading Scriptures. He enjoys walking around the temple and the surrounding land, usually deep in thought. Parlan does not appear content, but rather tranquilly apathetic.
Romantic conflict
Parlan apparently has some romantic feelings toward one of the other acolytes, a state he has to endure in secret due to the taboo in his sect against both homosexual love and relationships among priests. He suspects the emotion is unrequited, too.
Meeting with Heci
One day, while sitting against a tree and meditating, he was approached by Heci, a visitor to the temple. Heci had noticed him looking at the acolytes and realized he has feelings for one; as a result, they got into a discussion of unrequited love. Parlan is dismayed that Heci could not offer advice that would curtail his emotions.
That night, he took a shower so cold it brought him pain, and shivered himself to sleep. The next day, he traveled to the mines near the temple in order to give water to the slave miners. Over the course of the day, he reflected on his conversation with Heci. By the time he returned to the temple in the evening and witnessed a slave being punished for theft, he had come to accept his situation, at least temporarily.
