The Coalition of Free Stars (aka CFS) was an early alliance before alliances were officially recognised by CONCORD. It was mostly associated with the Querious region but claimed Delve and Period Basis too. It was note worthy for having a Free Space policy as opposed to the more normal NBSI of most modern alliances. The CFS no longer exists.

History

The Coalition of Free Stars (CFS) was the original protectorate body of the tri-region area of Delve, Period Basis, and Querious. The Coalition of Free Stars was originally intended to be an alliance-free space, open to any and all law-abiding entrepreneur willing to risk living and working in 0.0 space. Members were expected to contribute to the defense of the regions, but operating in the area didn't require mandatory membership.

The body started out staunchly anti-pirate, and despite many outside criticisms for being too soft, too 'communistic', too weak, too disorganized or too bureaucratic, the experiment became an institution that many have looked up to and considered 'friendly' by stint of their policies and philosophies.

With the discovery of the Immensea Stations and smuggler's gates, CFS quickly moved to secure the stations of Querious region for itself, under the control of Blackavatar, but failed to act fast enough to stop FA from claiming the stations in Delve and Period Basis. Eventually a treaty and agreement between CFS and FA led to acceptance of FA stewardship of the stations with the understanding that the space and systems around these stations remain sovereign and under the protection of the CFS, and that the stations controlled remain available for use by all local residents, CFS or otherwise.

Over time, dissatisfaction by certain elements of the CFS, its bureaucracy and military organization, led to the creation of friendly but seperate alliances such as DSMA and the Star Alliance, eroding CFS's control of the area somewhat, but CFS has remained a respected and viable power in the area.

At the outbreak of the Tri Region War CFS moved to break treaty with Fountain Alliance based on the grievances that FA hadn't fullfilled its obligations to protect the stations it held adequately from CA incursions. Attacking the stations to reclaim them for CFS was seen as an attack against its former allies in the Fountain Alliance, which led to an immediate escalation to full fledged war. Blackavatar's ties to both the fledgeling FIX Alliance and Fountain Alliance, as well as fears of a CFS move on the Querious region prompted FIX's entry into the Tri-Region war.

CFS's fate hanged in the balance, its fighters following an ideology that clinged to the original beliefs of CFS while, perhaps ironically committing the same acts of declaring for itself interstellar Sovereignty, resorting to violence instead of negotiation with former allies to settle disputes, and listening with half an ear bent to Curse Alliance's media propaganda, that the original CFS policy was dead set against.

CFS was officially disbanded on 108.10.16 (CY). The official Gal-Net annoucement.

Coalition of Free Stars Navy

A corporation named Coalition of Free Stars Navy was recently created by a former Coalition Navy pilot named Ange Noire. Her intentions, as she says, is training young pilots to fight. This corporation was named as a memory of the old alliance but don't claim any of the old territories.
