Locus
The locus of a wormhole system is a unique identifier used by pilots to differentiate a given wormhole system from all others. A locus is also known as a Locus Signature in the game interface.
A locus consists of the letter J and 6 numerals. For example: J123456. Although the numerals have a valid range, there are no duplicates. The valid ranges are as follows:
J1ANXNX
J2BNXNX
Where
A = 0-7
B = 0-3
N = 0-5
X = 0-9
The format of the locus can be broken down thus:
J1A:NX:NX
J2B:NX:NX
MIN VALUE | MAX VALUE | |
J1 valid range | J10:00:00 | J17:59:59 |
J2 valid range | J20:00:00 | J23:59:59 |
J1 extant instance | J10:00:01 | J17:44:49 |
J2 extant instance | J20:37:53 | J23:59:53 |
J1 outside valid range | J09:59:59 | J18:60:60 |
J2 outside valid range | J19:59:59 | J24:60:60 |
Using the ancient Terran time keeping format, a locus seems to indicate a basic hours:minutes:seconds (HH:MM:SS) value. The extant range found in the game is missing hours 00-09 and 18-19. It is not known whether this is significant or not.
Furthermore, there are three exceptions: J1226-0, J1259+0 and J1340+6. This may simply be a bug or it may be relevant in some way.
Based on out of game resources, it would seem that the locus signature does not directly encode any other type of information such as class type, region or constellation affiliation, spatial anomaly (tactical environment such as a black hole or a pulsar) sun type or anything else. Locus signatures are randomly distributed throughout all wormhole regions and constellations and they do not seem to be grouped in any obvious manner.
