Strategic Cruisers were the first tech III ships to be released. They require the use of five subsystems, which determine its role bonuses, slot layout and hardpoints. They are built not from regular minerals, but from fullerite gas harvested in wormhole space; researching the blueprints requires reverse engineering ancient relics and datacores from wormhole space sites, and an Experimental Laboratory. Due to their modular nature they can fill a variety of roles, but they are, when the subsystems are taken into account, the most expensive ships in their size category. Having your Strategic Cruiser destroyed is a traumatic process not just because of the loss, but because it causes a loss of skill points.
