WGoE
What is Women Gamers of EVE ?
Women Gamers of EVE [WGoE] is a chat channel in EVE where only irl females are allowed. The reason behind this is due to many females playing MMORPG's sometimes have a need to take a pause from the testosterone and "Once I caught a fish that was I--------I big" attitude. As EVE is greatly dominated by males, a channel like WGoE can be seen like a haven for some.
"The WGOE channel is where I can get away from all the shit that goes on being an EXEC member of a corp... It is where I can bitch about my husband.. or about my day.. or hell.. if I feel like being emotional, I can... No strings attached. Being around an entire corp of guys most of the time, it is nice to get away from that at times!" - Malindah
By no means do the females in EVE have anything against interacting with guys, on the contrary actually. It is often said that they generally prefer talking with the guys in their corporation/alliance etc; although, being able to only talk with other girls can be a nice change from time to time. So there you have it, it is not a corporation nor an alliance. It is just a chat channel created for all the females in EVE.
History
In 2003, a female named Aminida created WGoE. In the beginning it was mainly for fun and laughs. Aminida knew a few females in EVE and wanted to bring them closer. Aminida started placing cans all over the EVE universe where she advertised the channel. Very slowly, the channel started to grow.
Finding females in EVE was not easy due to the facts that many females hide behind male characters, that EVE was big and getting the word out was difficult. The girls currently in the channel at that time all helped out trying to find other females. We would start a conversation with those who had female characters and a biography that would resemble anything a female would write. Now, as you can understand, that was not an easy thing to do. A few times we got lucky but most of the times we did not. What made our work easy was the fact that guys were honest about being, well, guys.
After a few months the channel had evolved from being just a channel for friends to a channel for all females in EVE. Aminida had to leave EVE but handed control over to Ada Lovelace. Ada took over and pushed the channel up a notch. More females were invited as we now had an "interview" procedure. After a while Ada Lovelace left the game and (Zajo) in charge of WGoE.
With the help from Feline Ferocity, WGoE grew bigger each week. Feline sorted out a TS server for WGoE that allowed us to make the interview process foolproof. Feline also created a forum that was open to the public. WGoE had its own private section and a public one. Unfortunately this forum had to be closed down.
Sometime later, Zajo left the game, and Malindah was left in charge. In this time Phuze, Arancia Detto and Leandra Nor were all moderators and greatly helped in the growth and upkeep of the channel.
In February of 2011, Malindah indefinitely left EVE as well. Since then, Arancia Detto and Laedy are charge as both Administrators and Moderators of the channel. As of today (March 2011), this is still the case.
WGoE has a public channel ingame, feel free to join. “WGoE=Public”
Today WGoE is known by several people in EVE. It has been mentioned in magazines, blogs, talked about on EVE Radio and several times been a subject (gossip) between people in EVE.
In the last year we have also held some events just for the ladies in the channel, such as “all-girl” pvp roams, which have been a lot of fun. Once you join the private WGoE channel, you will also be invited to join a mailing list which sends info out on these ops.
There are a large amount of females registered in the channel, but not all are in there at the same time, so it can sometimes be quiet. It is important that they know the channel is there for them if they want to, but we all know the vast amount of chat channels you can have open and many of us has a lot of responsibilities ingame that makes it hard to devote our time in the channel. Those not in are always welcome back!!!
Some interesting info:
Since the beginning, we have had an estimated number of 200 ladies join the WGoE channel. Many have left the game (or the channel) since.
The ingame channel record for ladies online at the same time are as follows:
2005 record: 20 chix on 21/08
2007 record: 19 chix on 19/09
2008 record: 12 chix on 08/03
2009: record 11 chix on 26/01
2010: record 20 chix on 20/09
2011: record 21 chix on 05/03
Rules
In order to keep the channel male free we of course need some guidelines and rules when accepting females. They are not many but they are important. This is to assure the privacy of the channel. Those in the channel need to feel absolutely certain that no male is present in the channel. Thus allow them to feel relaxed and safe if talking about anything private. This has been from the start one of the top priorities.
- You need to have a headset and working microphone, Teamspeak, Ventrillo or any other voice program installed so we can interview you.
- You need to be the only one playing on that character. We cannot allow hubbies/bf's/brothers or any other male acquaintance get access to the channel via your character. Reason explained above.
- At all time should the respect between all registered be set high. We do not tolerate race, religion, colour, appearance or any diminishing comments.
- If you sell your character, please inform one of the Admins in the channel before you do, so we can take that character off the “allowed” list.
How to apply
It is very easy, you just contact us via EVE - mail or start a conversation with either of the administrators/moderators of the channel.
Administrators: Arancia Detto, Laedy Moderators: Arancia Detto, Laedy
You can also join WgoE=Public channel ingame and contact us there.
As has been mentioned before, irl and other happenings ingame might make the transaction a bit slow. We ask of you to have patience with us.
Disclaimer: The administrators/moderators ask of everyone to respect our wish to keep the channel females only. So please do not send us fake mails claiming to be a female.
This site will be updated as new information pops up. Thank you for showing an interest in WGoE and I hope you feel this is a good idea just as the rest of WGoE. Fly safe and may EVE Be With You !
