Definition

Stealing from wrecks that belongs to another player that intended to loot it.

As a Profession

It's not really a viable profession early on. Unless you get lucky and snatch faction loot from a fresh uncommon rat (NPC pirates) then you're not likely to make any worthwhile amount of money. For more worthwhile loot you're going to have to go to low security space or perhaps invade a high level mission deadspace. For the more courageous, you can venture in 0.0 and in WH space to find more lucrative loot to plunder.

Minimum Requirements

  • A ship with cargo space.

Advantages

  • You may snatch some valuable items from the wrecks.
  • You may trick someone into shooting you that way, flagging them.
  • Being criminally flagged in low security space generally means nothing since players are allowed to shoot you without Concord interfering to begin with.

Disadvantages

  • If you loot from a wreck that doesn't belong to you, you will be criminally flagged. It's owner and player corporation he belongs to will be able to fire at you for 15 minutes, which resets each time you steal more. This is only important in high security systems.
  • Wrecks that do not belong to you can't be tractor beamed to you.
  • May require larger cargo space, since most items recovered are fittings.

Tips

  • If you're going to ninja loot, make sure you are aware of the risks involved and that you have proper ISK to back you up in case your ship gets blown up... or worse, you get podded. The common rule of thumb: "Don't fly what you can't replace" is essential here.
  • If you are using implants, it would be a good idea to acquire a jump clone in the near future.
