The YC Calendar is the universal calendar of the New Eden cluster under the CONCORD treaties that govern Eve Standard Time. YC stands for "Yoiul Conference", the conference between the five empires of New Eden (Amarr, Minmatar, Caldari, Gallente and Jove) that led to the forming of CONCORD, held on the Jovian battleship Yoiul. Alternately it may stand for "Yulai Convention", the name of the treaty signed there in the system of Yulai.
Year 1 of the YC Calendar coresponds to the year of the conference and respective treaties (23236 A.D. in the EVE Timeline). YC 105 corelates to 2003 (23141 A.D. in the future), the year of Eve Online's launch. The current year (2009) is YC 111.
The YC callendar follows the modern Gregorian callendar for months and days. Although residents of EVE realisticly will never have heard the names January, February, Monday, Tuesday, etc., the English names for months and days used for the convenience of players and can be taken to mean whatever equivilant unknown words would actualy be used.
Alternate Calanders
Before YC, the different empires would have had their own calanders. The only one identified in official backstory is AR, Age of Rouvenor (Year 1 AR = 21714 A.D.). AR is named after the Rouvenor dynasty of monarchs that rulled the Gallente civilization long before democracy and the Federation came to power, created by Doule Dos Rouvenor III, the second of the dynasty.
The Gregorian A.D. calander is used by CCP's fiction writers to refer to dates prior to YC 1. (You could argue it's something the Amarr might have kept up: A.D. = Anno Domani, Year of the Lord.)
