Archaeological sites, or ArcSal (short for Archaeology and Salvaging), are one of the mini-profession types found in Exploration.

These sites are located using the range of probes in the division of magnetometric, after encountering a magnetometric signal hit from a multispectral probe.

Each ArcSal site has its own name, which can be viewed by changing to the solar view. This name is broken up into 5 sections to correspond with its location.

Each ArcSal site will bear the first two variable, informing you that the exploration site you have discovered is from the ArcSal family.

The third variable describes what type of ArcSal site it is. In this case a Base 4 site, which has the scan strength of 0.3. Base 1 will have a 2.4 scan strength; Base 2 a 1.2 scan strength; and Base 3 a 0.6 scan strength. Base numbers do not seem to correspond to difficulty of what is there, but rather the difficulty in locating them and the yields they drop.

The forth variable describes where in EVE the site is. Deep Space indicates 0.0 space, there are two other names which are used for low security space (0.1 > 0.4) and high security space (0.5 > 1.0).

The final variable describes the npc faction guarding the exploration site.

It should also be noted that there is an additional magnetometric site of a Cosmos flavour that can also be found outside of cosmos regions.
