The art of controlling aggression timers.

How aggression works

If you steal from a player wreck, or container, the entire corp of the wreck owner will be able to engage you for a period of 15 minutes. You will only be able to shoot the people that actually engage you. The use of an aggressive module resets the 15 minute timer for that player, not the entire corporation.

How to use this

Steal from a wreck or container. In case the content doesn't fit in your cargo (ie. a lot of ore), jettison a container yourself, and drag it from their container to yours. Try not to make it too obvious that you want them to shoot you, and make them thing that you are just an ordinary thief.

At this point, you'll get an aggression timer to the corp. You hope that the victim does one of the following things:

  • Steal the contents back from your container
  • Shoot you
  • Bring in a corpmate to shoot you
  • Change to a combat ship in the station and come back to shoot you

At this point, you can shoot them back. Then loot and salvage their wreckage!

Escalation

Always make sure that you don't bring out your fancy superb ship at the first contact. A destroyer is good enough to blow up a mining barge, and by flying that, the chances of the victim returning in a bigger ship after he's blown up, increase. Perhaps he will even bring a corp mate along.

Let them think that they have a good chance of blowing you up. While knowing that you can beat them with your superior skills, fitting and tactics.

Social Engineering

Acting stupid or clueless can be a very effective tactic of getting the victim to aggress. Make the victim think you are absolutely retarded, or that all you want to do is steal, and they are more likely to shoot you.

Examples:

Can Flipper> HAI, YOU WANT BUY MY MINERAL ORE???? ^^
Victim> Uhh.. No, that's mine, you just stole that from me
Can Flipper> no i not steal you funny man))) you want buy i make good price cause you my friend)))
Victim> Yeah right, go away noob
Can Flipper> i not noob, you noob!!! you very noob player hahahahaha))))))
* Victim gets annoyed and will show this player that he isn't a noob. Victory!

Victim> Did you just steal from my wreck?
Can Flipper> no, i'm not a thief
Victim> Oh ok, then why are you flashing red to me?
Can Flipper> i'm not flashing red
Victim> Yes you are? You know that i can shoot you right?
Can Flipper> no you cant, [[CONCORD|CONCORD]] will come here and blow you up, hahaha
Victim> No they won't, cause you stole from me you scumbag
*[[Pew_Pew|PEW PEW]]* Victory!

(while being flashy to some random person)
Can Flipper> Cool, i just found 'Arbalest' Heavy Missile Launcher I

Advanced tactics

  • Dirty RR: Have a logistics/battleship, that's not involved Remote Rep/Shield Transfer you. The pilot doing this will receive your aggression timers, but will not be able to engage unless engaged himself. Especially effective when using for example a high dps T1 cruiser.
  • Aggression Timer Keep Alive: If you steal from a corporation, and they have a group that is to big too engage. You can keep the aggression alive on 1 or 2 targets by shooting them from a distance once, then run away again. At some point, the timers for most of their group will have expired, and you will be able to engage the helpless victims.
