Sorry, didn't mean to seem overbearing, grammar is a pathology of mine.. =)

I am interested in the ancient history of New Eden, always have been. So if I can help out don't hesitate to call on me, and don't be afraid to gripe at me either.. =)) --Roga Dracor 15:01, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the grammar changes, Roga. But they are in fact called 'the Takmahls' when you talk about them as a group (like 'the Sleepers'). The Curator (the agent that gives the history lesson on the Takmahls) uses that exact wording.

Sorry, but I am removing the focus of being a general COSMOS primer to focusing on the knowledge we have on the Takmahls and Yan Jungs, the Sleepers and Talocans have each two independent research fields outside of this group anyhow.

It is much more interesting to focus on the information we do have and discuss based on that --Myyona 09:59, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

I'm fine with narrowing the focus, I was wikifying what was already there, but rather that delete information it would be better to move it where you think it more appropriate. Wyke Mossari 10:11, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Yes. I will likely add it to the Talocan/Sleeper History pages, if it is in the interest of their leads, of course.--Myyona 13:31, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

I am taking the lead on this part of the Arek'Jaalan project (if nobody objects, of course). First of all because I have been studying the Takmahl and the Yan Jung far before the start of this project.

My first order of business will be to edit the page so it better reflects the purpose of this part of the project; to describe the known material on the Takmahl and Yan Jung civilizations and what impact/involvement they might have had on the Sleeper and Talocan civilizations. --Myyona 16:55, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

my notes and thoughts on takmahl things

The Takmahl specialised in cybernetics and bioengineering, and this is probably why they were exiled from the Empire proper.

Cybernetics and bioengineering allow several things, which would greatly affect the social order. Extending the life of an individual, perhaps making them immortal, would have profound effects, and would be championed by some, and opposed by others. Genetically engineered slaves and mass cloning would take away much of the requirement to expand and conquer. What need is there to conquer other planets, when slaves could be created en masse?

These things would sow the seeds of the Takmahl downfall.

At the time of the Takmahl exile, there were several things going on, related to the Empire's adaptation to space travel. There was the Mad Emperor, and following his assassination by Saint Tetrimon, there were the Moral Reforms.

So:

The Takmahl probably fell victim to the moral revision that was going on at the time. Technologies such as cloning became restricted or prohibited, e.g. the Godflesh doctrine that restricts cloning. Genetic manipulation would also be prohibited, instead the doctrines of slavery as a route to enlightenment would become more popular. A genetically engineered slave cannot be enlightened through slavery, as an example.

This would have meant exile for the Takmahl, the remainder of the Empire would probably not want an outright war, as there would still be the infighting about the Moral Reforms for centuries to come.

And eventually the Takmahl died out in Araz, leaving only ruins to speculate over.
