|SkillInformation=This ship needs a good bit of shield and fitting skills to be able to fly, even using named modules instead of T2.  Aside from that, it is relativity straightforward to fly, no tricks to it.

|Hints=This fit is pretty flexible in it's own right.  While it lacks a damage module, blaster's natural high DPS makes up for it, and combining that with the optimal range bonus, it offers the Merlin more flexibility when it comes to range dictation that other blaster boats lack.  Combined with it's powerful shield tank, reaching over 7,000 effective hp, you can weather down the opponent's tank while keeping your's safe (thanks to the shield's regeneration properties).  Finally, due to the split weapon system, while it is a curse since you cannot focus on bringing up the DPS of 1 system, it also renders you resistant to tracking disruptor EWars.<br>

Introduction

The Merlin is a very strong combat frigate who's strength lies in its bonus in shield resistance. It is usually delegated to mission running duties for new pilots, but it also makes a very strong PvP ship, though not as popular as the Rifter. In most cases, you will find the Merlin to be shield tanked (in rare cases, they can be armored tanked) due to it's 4 mid slots, the highest of all the T1 frigates (rivals only by the Griffin). Due to it's bonus to hybrid optimal, it is possible to fit the Merlin to be a sniper frigate at the cost of severely dropping it's DPS and reducing it's tank to being near non-existent.
