A Cosmic Anomaly is a hidden site guarded by NPC pirates, Drones or even Sleepers (in wormhole space), which players can find and eliminate the hostile NPC's inside. A Cosmic Anomaly is part of the exploration feature. Cosmic Anomaly encounters are not as difficult as their Cosmic Signature counterparts but can still give substantial rewards. There is a low possibility of NPC Faction Commander appearing providing special loot, as well as a small chance to start an Escalation which then would appear in the expeditions tab of your Mission Journal.

Unlike cosmic signatures, anomalies do not appear in a Deadspace zone and allows MWD to work.

Scanning

Cosmic anomalies can be found without any extra modules and skills by using the on-board scanner equipped in every ship other than capsules. The on-board scanner scans nearby space within 64 AU for cosmic anomalies and return the result after 10 seconds of scanning. One can also utilize scan probes to find anomalies, only one probe is required for anomalies and it will provide a warp-in point for any anomalies within its scan range, making it easier to find all anomalies within a system. Please consult the Scanning Guide for detailed instructions on using scan probes.

Please note: Cosmic Anomalies are designed to appear within 4 AU range around planets.

Levels

There are 10 different types of Anomaly Class ranging from Class 1 (easiest) to Class 10 (hardest).

  • Class 1 = (Faction) Hideaway or Drone Cluster (easiest)
  • Class 2 = (Faction) Burrow or Drone Collection
  • Class 3 = (Faction) Refuge or Drone Gathering
  • Class 4 = (Faction) Den or Drone Assembly
  • Class 5 = (Faction) Yard or Drone Surveillance
  • Class 6 = (Faction) Rally Point or Drone Menagerie
  • Class 7 = (Faction) Port or Drone Herd
  • Class 8 = (Faction) Hub or Drone Squad
  • Class 9 = (Faction) Haven or Drone Patrol
  • Class 10 = (Faction) Sanctum or Drone Horde (hardest)

Each Anomaly Class has 4 different level's ranging from Level 1 (easiest) to Level 4 (hardest).

  • Level 1 = (Faction name) + Anomaly Class (easiest)
  • Level 2 = (Faction name) Hidden + Anomaly Class
  • Level 3 = (Faction name) Forlorn + Anomaly Class
  • Level 4 = (Faction name) Forsaken + Anomaly Class (hardest)

It's not uncommon to find the same type of Anomaly Class with different Level's located in the same system. For example - (Faction) Hideaway, (Faction) Hidden Hideaway, (Faction) Forlorn Hideaway and (Faction) Forsaken Hideaway can all spawn in the same system along with other types of Anomaly Class.

Typical Anomaly Class locations:

  • Class 1 to 4 usually found in High Security.
  • Class 4 to 8 usually found in Low Security.
  • Class 8 to 10 usually found in Null Security (0.0).

The NPC pirate faction occupying the anomaly depends on the pirate faction of the area you are scanning. Drone anomalies can be found anywhere in New Eden. Null-security systems with active infrastructure upgrades should generate a constant presence of anomalies at different levels.

Wormhole Space

Cosmic Anomaly can also be found in wormhole space. These anomalies are guarded by sleeper drones and are much harder to complete without proper ships and skills.
