Silver ring

No me ves, pero tengo un anillo de plata en la palma de mi mano. Si adivinas que mano…

Fragment of an ancient riddle from Mother Earth

You don’t see me, but I have a silver ring on the palm of my hand. Of course you know which ring, and of course you know which hand… the ring is the ring you gave me, the hand is a hand like mine.

I had to pry the ring from my cold dead fingers. A strange thing, to look upon your frozen self… used to look like me when it was alive and breathing… looks like I will look like when gods and Fate forget to look after me.

We look just the same, this previous me and me. Except the warmth and the cold, of course, and of course the ring.

I remember the exact moment it happened, ion blasters cutting through the carbosteel, goo boiling in the pod and my consciousness flaring… I don’t remember clutching my hands like this, but I obviously did.

Frozen fingers and a strip of silver…

Cost me a small fortune to get it back, my frozen me. Crazy world… my breathing self is cheaper than my frozen self. But both are Isk, warm or cold, the same as modules, the same as ships and implants. Isk I make millions… you gave me only one ring.

And cold hand still cherishes your ring as much as I do and did… and grips and holds, and will not release, warm hand wrestling cold hand until warmth prevails and cold hand lets go and warm hand wears the ring… warm hand as all the hands I used to be.

Hand and silver ring… Can you tell which one is mine, and which one is me?
