Early Life
Astra and her sister, Nastrata, were born on Osmeden III to a Gallentean miner of simple lineage and background, named Jean, and an Amarrian exile of mysterious origin, named Dimitir. They grew into a life of simplicity; not having much, but not wanting for much, either. When the girls were in their early teens, a great commotion turned their lives up-side down when their mother had been taken away, without a word, by the Federal government. The girls never knew why, but Astra suspected that her father did, though he never spoke of it. He only wept and drowned himself in liquor, until he lost his life in a mining accident. Astra believed that this was due to his own intoxicated negligence, though she never spoke of her feelings to her more naive sister.
Rather than face a life in an orphanage, Astra absconded with her younger sister to live a hard life on the streets. It was not an easy life, but it was one of their own choosing. The girls became involved with some unsavory characters in this time, the scrappy Astra hired herself out as a thug to local criminals, while Nastrata's budding talents in chemistry allowed her to make ISK for the sisters needs by brewing all manner of boosters and recreational drugs to sell to buzzed-out miners and the criminals who preyed on them. All the while, as the girls did their best to eke out a living, staying together in a small, cluttered apartment in the worst part of their dreary mining town. They kept their eyes to the stars, watching ship trails in the night sky and watching the passing of the Federal Administration station in high orbit with delight.
After a few years, Astra enrolled in the Federal Naval Academy and saved enough funds to pay for Nastrata's admission to the Center for Advanced Studies, where Nas continued her education under full scholarship. During this time, it was discovered by the respective organizations that the sisters were potentials for becoming Capsuleers, and they were both successfully admitted into the relevant programs and training regimens to prepare them for that role.
Astra had intended to use a potential position in the Federal Navy to research what had happened to their mother, so many years ago...however the more she dug, the more resistance she met...and the more attention she attracted to herself. After some consideration, Astra resigned her commission in the Federal Navy before she garnered the interest of the Black Eagles. She had taken on a position in the Security Division of Lightspeed Enterprises, an established Capsuleer corporation operating in the far reaches of nullsec. Astra wanted to take her sister and get as far away from Federal reach as they could, never knowing if she had asked too much...
