Introduction
The Merlin is a very strong combat frigate who's strength lies in its bonus in shield resistance. It is usually delegated to mission running duties for new pilots, but it also makes a very strong PvP ship, though not as popular as the Rifter. In most cases, you will find the Merlin to be shield tanked (in rare cases, they can be armored tanked) due to it's 4 mid slots, the highest of all the T1 frigates (rivals only by the Griffin). Due to it's bonus to hybrid optimal, it is possible to fit the Merlin to be a sniper frigate at the cost of severely dropping it's DPS and reducing it's tank to being near non-existent.
