Cosmic Anomalies are part of the exploration feature. They do not need special skills trained to complete or find them. A cosmic anomaly is a hidden site guarded by NPC pirates, drones or even sleepers (in wormhole space), which players can scan down and eliminate the hostiles inside. Cosmic Anomaly encounters are not as difficult as their Cosmic Signature counterparts but can still give substantial rewards. There is a low possibility of NPC faction commanders appearing providing special loots, as well as a small chance to start an Escalation which then would appear in the expeditions tab of your Mission Journal.

Unlike cosmic signatures, anomalies do not appear in a Deadspace zone and allows MWD to work.

Scanning

Cosmic anomalies can be found without any extra modules and skills by using the on-board scanner equipped in every ship other than capsules. The on-board scanner scans nearby space within 4 AU for cosmic anomalies and return the result after 30 seconds of scanning. One can also utilize scan probes to find anomalies, only one probe is required for anomalies and it will provide a warp-in point for any anomalies within its scan range, making it easier to find all anomalies within a system. Please consult the Scanning Guide for detailed instructions on using scan probes.

Please note: Cosmic Anomalies are designed to appear within 4 AU range around planets.

Levels

Cosmic anomalies are ranked in difficulty by 10 levels, these are:

  • (Faction) Burrow / Drone Collection (easiest)
  • (Faction) Hideaway / Drone Cluster
  • (Faction) Refuge / Drone Gathering
  • (Faction) Den / Drone Gathering
  • (Faction) Yard / Drone Surveillance
  • (Faction) Rally Point / Drone Menagerie
  • (Faction) Port / Drone Herd
  • (Faction) Hub / Drone Squad
  • (Faction) Haven / Drone Patrol
  • (Faction) Sanctum / Drone Horde (hardest)

A particular anomaly may be further sub-divided into 3 more categories:

  • Blood Raider Hidden Hub (easiest)
  • Blood Raider Forsaken Hub
  • Blood Raider Forlorn Hub (hardest)

The rank of the anomalies you could find depends on the security status of the system you are searching in. Within high-security space (1.0 to 0.5) the lower third will be found, low-security systems (0.4 to 0.1) contains the mid third of them and the higher third will be found within null-security space (0.0). Null-security systems with active infrastructure upgrades also gives constant presence of anomalies of different levels.

The NPC pirate faction occupying the anomaly depend on the pirate faction of the area you are scanning, while the drone anomalies can be found anywhere in New Eden.

Wormhole Space

Cosmic anomalies can also be found in wormhole spaces. Those anomalies are guarded by sleeper drones and are much harder to complete without proper ships and skills.
