The theory of shields not being energy fields is false. As stated in the article it says that it bends energy around the hull which is not true.
The way it should work however is if you imagine a big layer of energy wrapping itself around the ship. This layer of energy absorbs/nullifies any incoming material and energy (laserbeams and ammo). However since the shield field can only hold so much energy (containment of the field before it escapes into outer space) which is projected by the shield projectors it has a maximum shield size.
This would make much more sense as shields are used in smartbomb technology by quickly overloading the shields and then releasing that energy.
This would also make more sense with the tactical shield manipulation skill. When the field of energy gets depleted more and more an inexperienced pilot will not be able to spread the energy field equally anymore so holes form in the shield which allow certain strikes to hit the armor.
The boosting effect can be explained due to the fact that by quickly adding more energy the shield experience short fluctuations.
The current article is written with more imagination than a sense of realism.
What He Said, And
This article is directly contradicted by the Chronicles, including the most recent one, Uplifted, the arrangement of shield skills under Engineering which deals with energy matters rather than Mechanic which is where nanonmachine-related objects like armor repairers reside, and practical experience; if what is said here of shields is true, impact would result in noticeable damage to the ship. --James Edward 18:59, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
